The reason I ask about the "Price battle flags" is that I have been collecting materials for a history of Maj. Gen. Mosby M. Parsons' Confederate Missouri Division for the last 15 years. I have a few items about the flags carried by units in his division (i.e. 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 16th Missouri Infty, Lesueur's MO Btty, and Ruffner's MO Btty). I also have a neat rendition of the 8th Missouri's first national pattern flag drawn by Capt. E. A. Pinnell. I'd be happy to share the Lotspeich info and any other material I have on these flags if you would be so kind as to reciprocate.
I published a diary of Dr. William M. McPheeters ("I Acted From Principle: The Civil War Diary of Dr. William M. McPheeters, Confederate Surgeon in the Trans-Mississippi" Univ. Arkansas Press, 2002) and he, being a devout Presbyterian, had some pretty harsh things to say about Catholics in his diary. While he never mentioned anything specific about the Latin cross flags he certainly gazed upon them during his tenure in the TMD.
