Re: 1st Cherokee Mtd. Rifles -- Drew's

Tom et al,
I posted this on the Indian Territory message board but thought you might find this interesting too...

Below is a letter from Lt Col RC Parks, 1st Cherokee Mtd Volunteers encamped on the Arkansas near Webbers Falls to Col DN McIntosh, 1st Creek Regiment, who was in the vicinity of the Creek Agency (northwest of present Muskogee). This may be a recent replacement flag if the original flag was captured at Locust Grove or elsewhere.

[HEADQUARTERS 1st CHEROKEE REGIMENT,]
[ December 17,1862.]
Colonel D. N. McINTOSH:
This morning I will go myself with a scout ordered out across the river. I may be in the direction of Tahlequah & Grand River. Should you send any scout out you must advise them as my being in the country about somewhere. Our flag is two red stripes and white bar in the middle and nothing more.
Respectfully & truly yours,
R. C. PARKS,
Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding Post, Webbers Falls.
