Re: "New" Iowa Battle Flag Website

Hello Greg,

Just a side point of interest, Number 205 was the official SC State flag pattern. The 14x36 foot flag was removed from the State Capital by Iowa Troops on 2/17/1865. I guess you can say it was captured and I guess you can say it was a secession flag but it was the official pattern from 1861 to 1915. The 1915 flag act made official the color and position of the palmetto and cresent moon. The field color is just stated as blue, no official shade of blue as of yet. However most flag makers use O.G. blue for the field.

The 1861 flag act added the center device, palmetto tree, with the crescent moon in upper hoist with the points of the crescent pointing towards heaven as the original unofficial State flag, first use during the the first Rev. War.

Official State flag where made at the Clemson Citadel or Armory, now it some University that uses orange as colors. Not to be confused with Tennessee (at Martin [C.S. General Thomas Martin] ) orange. Sorry S.A.A. the devil made me say that.

Happy Trails!

Tom Martin
