Shawn - thanks for update - here is what I have so far:

Flag 1 (from news article) = 8th La - Captured by 6th Maine
Flag 8 (from news article) = 7th La - not captured (hidden/destroyed by colour bearer). Terry Jones, a very knowledgeable person on the La Tigers in the ANV also noted this on another site (Louisiana Forum).

Now for the other ones you noted, which flag number from article (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7) were captured by what unit?

54th nc--5th Maine Flag No?? =
6th nc---5th Maine Flag No?? =

I looked up the action at "Ethain's Landing" (really Elthaim Landing) but could not find an order of battle to show which units were there. Only units reference on the Confederate Side was Hood's Brigade.

I also found that only Sgt Roberts, who captured the flag of the 8th La, earned a CMOH as was the policy back then. No one else did who captured the other flags. So, could the flags have been "taken away" rather than captured?

Also, comments/ideas/direction on if the La Flags had battle honours on them?
