Though several photographs of Federal Color Guards do not show a sidearm, i.e. pistol being worn by the color sergeant, was it ever done? If not is it written anywhere that the color sergeant was to be unarmed? If so where. Giev that both armies used the same manuals for tactics did the same rule or practice, if there was one apply to Confederate color bearers?~Gary
