Re: Battle flag captured at Drewry's bluff

I will write his name down and see what he has to say. So far this is what I have on the battle of Chickamauga. Union flags captured.

Mg. Wheeler says his men captured 18 flags, one of which was the 89th Ohio's state flag. The 89th Ohio lost their federal flag to the 54th Va of Trigg's brigade on Sep 20th, 1863.

Trigg's Brigade captured (5) flags: 22nd Michigan (both flags), 21st Ohio (both flags) and the 89th Ohio's federal flag.

Bate's Brigade recaptured the 51st Tn's flag.

Clayton's Brigade did not capture any flags.

Mcnair's Brigade took the 8th Kansas flag and Bg. Buell's Brigade HQ flag. (2)

Preston's Division took (5) flags (all from Trigg's Brigade)

Deshler's Brigade took the 77th Ill and 79th Pa flags.

Breckinridge's Division captured (2) flags.

Kershaw's Brigade took flags (how many ?)
Humphrey's Brigade took (5 flags)

The 26th/50th AL captured the 6th Ohio's Battery flag.

24th AL lost a flag to the 51st Ill.
22nd AL lost a flag to the 121st Ohio.

Anderson's Brigade: 10th Ms "took several flags", 44th Ms took (2) flags. (This brigade was in MG.Hindman's Division, Hindman reported 5-6 flags captured by this division). As you can see Anderson's Brigade captured the bulk of the div flags.

The 12th/47th Tenn of Smith's Brigade took the 77th Pa's flag. The 11th Tenn of this same brigade captured the 78th Pa's flags.

Recap: Wheeler--18 Union flags captured
6th Ohio Battery flag
77th Pa, 78th Pa
44th Ms--2 flags captured
10th Ms--"Several"
Humphrey's brigade took 5 flags.
Kershaw's brigade took flags, how many?
Breckenridge's Div---took 2 flags.
Deshler's Brigade--79th Pa and 77th Ill.
22nd Mich (both)
21st Ohio (both)
89th Ohio--Federal captured by 54th Va
89th Ohio---State flag captured by Wheeler's Cav.
Mcnair's Brigade captured the 8th Kansas and Bg.Buell's Brigade HQ Flag.

At least 40 right there. Anything labled as "several" I will leave out till I find out how many. I am sure the Regulars lost alot of flags, many were pow's. Union batteries that were swallowed up. I would say in the 50-60 range at most. Some Union regiments failed to exist after the battle.
Plus the Confederates did capture the most artillery out in the west. I believe Harper's Ferry, Sep 1862 was the most artillery captured by any Confederate army.

Have a great weekend everyone,

Shawn
