Thanks. This is the flag that was presented to them in 1861 at Barrancas and surrendered at Island Number 10. It is specifically mentioned and described by the governor in a broadside dated December 1861. As you know they were organized trained and drilled as both infantry and heavy artillery at Ft. Barrancas. Two companies fought as infantry during the Battle of Santa Rosa Island. The regiment served the big guns during both bombardments of Ft. Pickens. I'm not sure if they served dual purposes at Island Number 10. I know they were serving the artillery for sure. I did not research them beyond the loss of the flag but you bring up an interesting point. I believe that (other than the time spent in prison camps) they fought as infantry for the remainder of their service. I'll check McMorries' and the OR's. They were definately some of the best switch hitters of the war. Thanks again.
