The Civil War Flags Message Board

eBay Flag Links - A Request

Shawn, and others,

I'm very concerned about the posting of links to purported Civil War-era flags on this message board, without comment. This site has become quite well-known, and rightly so, as an authoritative Civil War vexillology discussion site, due to the outstanding flag experts that contribute to this message board. My concern, is that someone might attribute veracity to the claims of authenticity of these hoaxes, simply because "we" link to them on this message board and offer no comment, with that initial link, as to the likelihood of whether or not the flag is as stated. I would appreciate that any linking to "for sale" items, strictly be for the sake of historical discussion and/or for the purpose of warning prospective purchasers of these items of the expert opinions of the contributors to this site. Please don't just post a link without a comment. Either ask if others consider the flag or other item to be authentic or state your own opinion.

I would hate for anyone to purchase a forgery or fake and in any way attribute their error to this site. This site does not endorse or take responsibility for any claims of authenticity for any offerings, other than those made by the ownership of the message boards. Anyone considering the purchase of any flag, artifact or other item is advised to practice "caveat emptor" and do thorough research and investigation apart from this message board and through recognized museums, appraisers and auction houses, prior to making any purchasing decision.

Thanks,

Jim
