Civil War Flag Display in California

Hello

I wanted to let you know about an upcoming display of Civil War flags from California in honor of Independence Day. Two Civil War cavalry guidons will be on display from July 3, 2007 to July 13, 2007 in the Rotunda of the State Capitol in Sacramento, California. The flags in question belonged to Company M, First California Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, and to Company D, Second California Volunteer Cavalry Regiment. There will not be any flags from the Second Massachusetts Cavalry on public display. For further information see below.

State Capitol ceremony to honor Independence Day, featuring the Historic Flag Exhibit and patriotic music. Presented by the California State Capitol Museum, California State Parks and the California State Legislature Joint Rules Committee, this special event on the Second Floor Rotunda of the State Capitol will highlight four rare Civil War and World War I era flags from the State Capitol Historic Flag Collection.

The event will also include the California National Guard Honor Guard's presentation of the colors and Illusions Barbershop Quartet performance of patriotic music on the first floor of the Capitol Rotunda. The historic flag exhibit will be on display from July 3, 2007 to July 13, 2007.

These fragile flags have been undergoing conservation and have not been exhibited for several years. Do not miss your chance to see these precious pieces of our state's history.
