Re: Recovery of 5th Virginia flag at Gaines' Mill

Tom, This goes beyond your subject, but for possible background interest I wanted to suggest that the folder you mention may have contained "back-up" material for a book titled "The University Memorial," a 755-page compilation ("Five volumes in one," suggesting earlier, serial publication?) by The Rev. John Lipscomb Johnson of Charlottesville, published in Baltimore 1871 and now somewhat rare. It contains solicited/contributed and author-originated bio sketches of the 200 or so Univ of Va alumni killed in the war, many of them former classmates or associates of the author, who says he undertook the project as a personal venture, out of respect to their memory.
