About 1/2 inch seems right based on measurements that I have done.

That is also correct, meaning that the blue is probably 6 inches wide with 1/2 inch on each side being used as the seam with the red field. This makes sense as bunting bolts were 18 inches wide and you could cut three strips of 6 inch blue bunting from each bolt for crosses.
