Thank you for the post, Tom. I was staggered by the news, also not realizing the seriousness of his illness. My contacts with Howie go back over thirty years, but my admiration for his painstaking research exceeds that period. The definitive book I have hoped each year to see, on Confederate flags, may have to await another, to take up Howie's flag.
We are all in his debt. May he rest in peace, and my condolences to Pat and the family. All flags represented on this board and yet to appear must be considered at half staff/mast in sorrow and respect as we bow our heads.
