I agree completely with everyone else's sentiments. Although to my regret, I never had the privilege of meeting Mr. Madaus in person, several years ago he patiently took the time to answer my many questions on the phone and correspond via e-mail as a neophyte regimental history researcher concerning some mysteries about the various issues of 2nd Mississippi colors.

The Civil War community has lost not only a true giant in his field, but also a great friend.
