Hello Ken, Thank you very much for your reply, I think I have made the auction title a little to ambiguos due to only having a few words to convey all that is in the listing. I am not saying that Lee gave anything over personaly but that Lt. Col. Lawrence received the Army's funds and had them deemed valueless by the government and then issued them as souveniers along with portions of the flag accompanying his letter, to certain staff officers at the time. I know that grant allowed most of the confederates to keep their own horses and in most cases their weapons but the army's confederate currency was confiscated. I only know these things by franticaly searching around on the internet for information on the events at and just after Lee's surrender.
