Re: Whitfield / Ross Texas Cavalry Brigade Flags

Bill,

I have files on a few of the flags for these regiments and can help you with several that still exist.

The 9th Texas Cavalry lost their flag at Corinth in October, 1862 to the 27th Ohio Infantry and I have a source that says the 6th Texas Cavalry lost their flag the next day at Hatchie Bridge. Four of Sul Ross' regiments lost flags at Lovejoy Station in 1864 during the Atlanta Campaign according to Union accounts but I will have to hit the files to find out which.

Ross' Brigade, as part of Gen. William "Red" Jackson's Division, received Mobile Depot battle flags in October, 1863. There were the 12 star rectangular battle flags that you can find on our Flags of the Confederacy website (www.confederateflags.org).

More later,

Greg Biggs
