Re: Whitfield / Ross Texas Cavalry Brigade Flags

Greg, The 9th lost their flag after breaching the line near Battery Robinette, during day 2 of Corinth, the flag bearer was shot and a second took the flag. He was shot. At that point one of the 27th troops snatched the flag and darted back toward the line. He was shot but managed to make the line. This description came from Cozzen's book.
I had not found that the 6th lost their flag at Hatchie Bridge. My GGF was wounded there. Ross held a Division with back up from the regiments of his brigade. The 27th TX Cavalry Regiment was shot up bad and retreatred through the 6th. The 9th and 3rd were the backup for the 6th along with Stirman's Sharpshooters, who had been shot up bad during the 2nd day of Corinth the previous day, when they made it to Rosecarns Hq before running out of ammunition and men. Cables Brigade came up with a battery to provide covering support. Ross retreated across the bridge when all that could had made it across the bridge. The 6th stiff resistance plus the covering fire allowed the Corps to escape.
Ross lost his flag during the McCook Raid on 31 July only to gain it backduring the malee. About a month later the lost it when Kilpatrick's Division plus ran over Ross' 420 men. The 3rd's flag was captured in an ambulance, not in battle. McCook and Kilpatrick captured many flags from ramsacking homes and ambulances.
Thanks for the info on the Mobile Depot battle flags.
