The absense or presence of a Medal of Honor is NOT a very good indicator as to whether a flag was captured or not.
The Medal at that time did not have the respect that it now enjoys in our time. Many of the flags were simply not turned over to authorities and were kept as sourvenirs.
The 30 day furlough that went along with the capture of a flag was much more conveted than the Medal itself.
