More Union flags captured at the Crater

I was looking for some old pictures in my attic and came across some old boxes. While looking inside I came across some old notebooks that I had written back in 1999/2000.

I doubled checked my old post of "Union Returned Battle flags" "War Department" on Sunday 24 June, 2007

On July 30th, 1864 at the battle of the Crater...

List of flags captured by Mahone's, Sander's and Wright's Brigades...

11th New Hampshire--Lost National---16th Virginia captured it.

28th US Colored---Flag type?----16th Virginia captured it.

58th Massachusetts--(State Flag)--16th Virginia captured it.

58th Massachusetts--(Regimental)---3rd Georgia captured it.

57th Massachusetts---Flag type?---61st Virginia captured it.

2nd Michigan--Flag type?------8th Alabama captured it.

20th Michigan--(Regimental)---9th Alabama captured it.

20th Michigan---(National)----59th Virginia captured it.

This new information was from a old book called,

"The Confederate Solider In The Civil War"

A late 1920's book, grey, rather large book. I do not own the book, but while at Fort Knox, Kentucky, my Captain liked Civil War and loaned me the book and I wrote everything down.

The odd thing, I did not see the 2nd Michigan on the "War Department" returned battle flags in 1905. Nor do I know which flag was captured.

Have a good night, everyone

Shawn
