I've always had 3 things I wanted to find out.

1) Did the Union lose a flag at Sharpsburg? Yes, the 17th Virginia captured the 103rd New York's Regimental flag.

2) 11th Corps at Gettysburg, Day 1, who lost flags?

3) Chickamauga, the only major battle the Army of Tennessee ever won. Bragg reported in the OR that "25 Flags were captured". I have found double that so far.

The War department had 58 flags they could return and identify what state they were from. They had another 250 Union flags they could not identify. So the low count on Union flags has to be 300 to 500? What I am going to do it count up all the flags I know about. Then check every OR and write down unknown Union flags and add that all up. I will then type everything up and put the list on here.

I will always check regimental histories, and other works at the LOC and National Archives and see else is out there.
