I bet they were close together. Grandpa Alex was shot in the face and as he was climbing over a spit rail fence, a artillery round exploded causing him to suffer a hernia on the right side. He was affected by those wounds the rest of his life. One of his closest comrades by the name of Matthews was killed by the same round that cuased injury to Alex. Once again, small world.
