Re: A question to Gregg about Porcher

Yes Gregg, I believe your post. If you say there is no proof in his writings of a St. Andrew's connection then what you say must be true. POrcher called his cross a saltire. What Saltires would he have known about to design a saltire cross? Would he have seen the pictures of the Irish, scottish, and Russian crosses? Yes Gregg, I am wearing you out with speculation for fun? I'll stop. i looked up a few counties in Kentucky on epodunk and looked at the ancestry people claimed. It seems that there were a few more people claiming Irish, scottish, and scotch Irish heritage than english. It was like 20 percent celts and 13 percent English. Did you say that most COnfederate soldiers were of english descent? There would have been a lot of mixes back then too. It seems like that there would have been a few more Irish, scotch Irish, Welsh, and Scottish than English. When did the Episcipalian( sic?) flag get designed and where? If these soldiers don't mention a scottish cross connection then it is just a Southern cross which is fine with me.
Take care!!
