The Civil War Flags Message Board

? for Mr. Biggs or Mr. Swinson 32nd/45th Miss flag

Gentlemen,
In researching the 3rd Btn/45th Miss (mostly Co E) I read the abstract and in regards to Joel McBride, it states:
"....McBride was sent to Camp Douglas Prison in Chicago,
Illinois, exchanged three months later and retuned to his regiment in April 1863.
McBride is credited as being the unit’s fearless regimental color bearer during 1863 for all battles and engagements of the consolidated 32nd & 45th Mississippi, including the Tullahoma Campaign, Chickamauga, Chattanooga Siege, Missionary Ridge (Tunnel Hill)and Ringgold Gap (Taylor’s Ridge)."
My question is, is the only reference to this the article from Confederate Veteran? In Joel's service records, it states he was exchanged on 4 April 1863, at City Point, VA, but then states he was on Provost Guard duty until Dec 1863.
Just trying to get my notes straight, but I am more inclined to believe service records before an article wrote almost 30 years after the war. Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks
Virgil
