37th North Carolina

Hey Forum,

My research into the flags captured during "Longstreet's famous assault," popularly known as "Pickett's Charge," has uncovered a quandary that I hope the fine members of this forum may be able to answer.

Does anyone know the fate of the 37th North Carolina's Richmond Depot issued third wool bunting with the small blue block uncial letter battle honors?

Mr. Glenn Dedmondt's The Flags of Civil War North Carolina doesn't mention such a banner existing. Yet, his book does confirm that each of Lane's other four regiments had carried such a flag. The only regimental standard discussed for the 37th North Carolina is the earlier issued Branch/Lane brigade banner.

Any assistance will be kindly appreciated and fully credited.

Best Regards,

P.S. [Shameless bit of self-promotion] Read my well reasoned speculation, concerning the probable capture of the 37th North Carolina's flag at Gettysburg in the linked article.
