Thank you, for the narrative based on Lt. Col. William G. Morris' letter from Raleigh, North Carolina's The Observer. My article, "A Rediscovered Bachelder Letter: North Carolinians in 'Pickett's Charge'" in The Gettysburg Magazine (Issue 37) interprets his story just a little bit differently. I agree that Morris, leading the right half of the 37th NCT, joined in Trimble's charge to the south, but I believe his five companies were farther north, confronting the 12th New Jersey. My reading of his letter suggests that the regiment's flag went to the left with Lane.
