Re: confederate flag? what it means today

Katie,

You do not define what you mean by the Confederate Flag.

The Confederate Flag to me is that which represented the Confederate States of America, originally the Stars and Bars.

Today, it represents to me, the same thing it meant to those folks of the states of the Southern Confederacy, hope for their Southern Independence.

How you can confuse that with "white supremacy," or symbolize the south and country people is puzzling.

If you want to discuss "white supremacy," you might want to consider the Constitution of the United States which allowed the slave trade to continue until the year 1808. See Section 9, Article 1.

Furthermore, a motion to the original draft of the Contitution substituted the year "1808" for the year "1800." The affirmative vote for this motion were 7, the states of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Nays were: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware.

Why then, shouldn't the Stars and Stripes be considered a symbol of "White Supremacy?"
