Re: 18th Missouri (USA) lost a flag

I found the flag on the War Department's list of recaptured flags. At first I did not know it was the 18th Missouri flag, then I took Dolman's name and put it in the National Archives soldier/sailor system and only two Dolman's came up. One was in the 18th Missouri and the other in the 8th New York Heavy Artillery. So that was a huge help. Since it was known the 18th Missouri lost a flag at Shiloh and the War Department had it on their list, it all worked out.

I have no idea where the flag is, Gregg Biggs is the expert among many other experts on here. I just find them, let you all sort out the details.

Very nice story of your grandfather in the 18th Missouri. I wish I could be helpful, but hopefully someone on here can help you out. I am just on a mission to find all Union flags captured during the war. I am at 987 right now. This weekend I shall head to the LOC and do research on a list of Union regiments that I believe lost a flag during the war.

Have a good morning, Sir

Shawn
