In a way I want to say he died a good death. If he had been with his regiment at 1st Bull Run, either he would have been killed or wounded seeing that the 11th NY was routed by Stuart's 1st Virginia cavalry. We are starting to believe that Wheat's La Battalion just might have captured or found on the field a flank marker from the 11th New York. It's just up in the air, till we find concrete evidence.
