The confederate flag today, being a symbol of southern pride, values, and to some, segeration, symbolizes a belief of a lifestyle that many white americans hold true to their heart. It has nothing to do with slavery or trying to keep anyone regardless of race or creed or color from living their life as they choose. It might be seen as as a personal statement of "this is who I am" a person who does not like government lies and greed, who does not trust the courts who will give a blue collar lower income citizen the maximum penatly for a law violation, and turn a blind eye to powerful people for far worse violations. The stars & bars make a statement of "this is who I am", Humorous, easy going, lover of simple pleasures, friends & family, and a person who will fight to keep what is dear to me. It is a Rebel flag and I am a modern day rebel. I see the Al Sharptons of the world crying out in anger over a flag raised over the South Carolina capitol building, claiming it to be a hate symbol, a slavery symbol, an Oppression symbol, ect.ect. sorry Al, I dont see it that way. Diversity is (I believe) about reconizing peoples unique individuality and learning to accept that they are different. It's easier to hate, ask the NAACP.
