Re-Captured Union flag in Louisiana

This subject is about a "box" of captured Union flags that were recaptured. Come to find out a "General WM. R Boggs" wrote that he packed the box of captured flags.

He wrote that Richmond wanted the captured Union flags to be turned in.

Here is the kicker...he only packed up the National flags!

General Boggs kept the regimental flags (no list provided) but did mention a fine New York flag made by:

"Ball, Black and Co"

This New York regiment was "one of the Union favorite" out west. It did not say what New York regiment.

From the book "Military Reminiscences of Gen. Wm. R Boggs, CSA" page 80.

As many of you know the messenger with the box was captured crossing the river and the flags were re-captured. Looks like General Boggs did the right thing in not turning in all the flags.

The New York flag was given to some officer as a trophy. Nothing else on that flag.
