Another entry from Booth's: Charles O'Connell was detailed as color sergeant in the 8th Louisiana Infantry on 12 December 1861. But he "acted disgracefully at the battle of Port Republic, running off with his colors, for which he was reduced to the ranks." He deserted shortly afterwards.
