The Civil War Flags Message Board

Re: flags at Brice's Crossroads

Sorry I didn't get back on this Greg. Just saw the post.

I found that on the Tennessee website. The 2nd and 7th Tennessee Cavalry (CSA) captured a few flags at Brice's Cross Roads.

I don't know what Union flags they have captured.

Here is what I found:

"The regiment was with Forrest in his running battle with the forces under Major General William Sooy Smith, which ended with the latters total defeat at the Battle of Brice's Crossroads, June 10, 1864. Reporting on the fighting, Forrest wrote:"About 300 men of the 2nd Tennessee Cavalry, under Colonel Barteau, and the 7th Tennessee Cavalry, Colonel Duckworth, received repeated charges from seven regiments of the enemy in the open field, and drove them back time after time, capturing three stands of colors and one piece of artillery."

Here is the site: http://www.geocities.com/bsdunagan/22cav.htm

Go down just about all the way and you will see it.

Hope this helps!

Have a good night, Greg
