The Civil War Flags Message Board

Re: flags at Brice's Crossroads

I'm not at all implying Smith was there. I don't even know who wrote that he was. I know Sturgis was there with 8,100 men from the Memphis garrison. Forrest was about to cross the Tennessee river when he got a report to turn around and stop Sturgis. If Sturgis never moved out of Memphis, under orders, Forrest would have cut Sherman's supply line on the railroad. Sherman was very worried that his railroad supply line was on a single track.

Anything on the Union flags captured? I have the Union order of battle, but it's a guessing game on who lost flags. Unless you do deep research on it. I have my hands full out in the east with Lee and AOP commanders and battles.

I read they you are coming out with a book on Tennessee flags. Would this be just the Confederate flags or some Union flags captured as well?

I will be looking for your book, when it comes out. Keep up the hard work!!

Have a good day,

Shawn
