The Civil War Flags Message Board

Drew,

I feel very uncomfortable with this thread and would appreciate it, if you would communicate with "experts" by email regarding this subject. I have already had to delete a couple of insulting posts from a so called expert, who doesn't seem to understand the purpose or the decorum required on these message boards. Rather than offering anything constructive, he gave the book and the author the back of his hand with a one line insulting retort.

Glenn Dedmondt is a longtime friend and contributor to these message boards and for some reason, his books, which I consider enjoyable, heavily illustrated beginner and intermediate level books, draw the ire of many of our "experts", because they are not detailed enough for their tastes and their may even be some errors or disagreement on his conclusions. I must admit, after purchasing and reviewing all of Glenn's books, they were not books I would have in my library, according to my current and hopefully, more "expert" tastes. But, there was a time, when books like Glenn's gave me hours of enjoyment, and even with some flaws, inspired me and drew my interests and reading to a higher level. My reading of Civil War history started with "The American Heritage Picture History of the Civil War" and the little books from the National Battlefield Parks, not James Robertson, Bill Shea or Earl Hess. Dammit, I liked the pictures! ;-)

So what I'm saying is, how about posting your email address or asking others to visit your website to discuss this matter? I'd prefer not to have a discussion of the value of Glenn's books for experts, to the exclusion of the overall value of the books to all levels of the Civil War reading community.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Jim
