Captured Union flag from BG.Hays--Gettysburg

Mrs. Hays, widow of the late General H.T. Hays has in her possession a flag. July 16th, 1890.

"I have seen the flag and it is made from silk, I think it is a regimental or company flag". Judge Advocate, Department of La. and Miss. Yours respectfully, A.S. Graham.

The flag was from an Ohio regiment (75th).

BG. Hays in his July 10th, 1863 reported had this to say.

"Sir on behalf of the 8th Regiment, I tender you a flag captured on the evening of the 2nd, in the charge upon Cemetery Hill by Private Willis of "Co.I", from a Ohio color-bearer--that of the 57th Ohio, I believe. (57th Ohio was not at Gettysburg).

"The adjutant of the 75th Ohio killed the color-bearer of the 8th Louisiana who himself had hold of their flag, when he himself was shot beyond the wall".

Since we all know the 75th Ohio lost their National flag could this be the regimental or company silk flag? It was described as "Battle Flag".

BG.Hays claimed to have captured "Four flags". This just might be the second know flag, finally.

I found this on the internet "Journal of the...National Encampment. By Grand Army of the Republic. Pages 203-204-205.

I went on "Google Books".

Thank you for any help on this!

Have a good day,

Shawn
