I was thinking that perhaps there might be a mention in either the Regimental Morning reports or perhaps his companmy morning report of the fact that he had been appointed Color Bearer. Most units kept reasonable records for purposes of soldiers pay, etc. I would thing that NARA might have this info if you have the state, reginemtn and perhaps the company info. FC
