The borders for the ANV Second and Third Bunting flags were not made of tape of the period - rather they were orange or white bunting four inches wide and folded over the outer edges of the ANV flags for strength along the flag's outer edges as well as decorative purposes.

The only ANV flags that had taped borders were the stop-gap ANV wool-cotton issues from May, 1862 with 12 stars. These were issued to Hood's, Elzey's and Steuart's Brigades along with 20 units of Jackson's Valley Army. The tape on these is a thin orange color.
