I am new here, and live in Brentwood, work in Nashville. I have a number of civil war prints and memorabilia in my office, and have decided to supplement these goodies by hanging a couple of (repro!) battle flags on a bare wall. Since my office is here in Nashville, I thought that I would take the opportunity to hang flags that would allow me to expound on the history of the battle...amazing to see how people who have lived here all their lives no nothing, while I have read a bunch and visited local sites even though I am a transplant from California! I guess that is always the way it works...
Anyway, I have been doing some research on a variety of possibilities, and have come up with a series of attractive combinations (most of which will require me to sew my own flags!). One is to display a pair of flags that would have been seen together on Shy's Hill during the Battle of Nashville, either the Union 35(?) star and the Confederate National Flag of late 1864, or maybe Corps or Regimental Flags (Union XVI Corps, or 5th, 7th, 9th, and 10th Minnesota on one side, and Bates Division or the 2nd, l0th, 20th, 30th and 37th Tennessee Regiments).
Another is to pair up a couple of the flags that would have flown over the Battle of Franklin...like Cleburne's Hardee Flag, 1st Tennessee, Hood's Rangers against the 4th (Army of Cumberland) or 23rd (Army of Ohio) Corps.
What I want to do is to confirm that I have the exact details of the various units and flags that are correct for the period and the respective battle. Having accomplished that, (and really not wanting to sew if I can avoid it!), I am looking for any leads on getting these specific flags in original type materials (i.e. cotton or felt instead of polyester).
Any help? Thanks.
