I have seen that woodcut showing the 1st Tennessee flag, and a number of reproductions that must be based on that image. However, I cannot imagine why the "Perryville" and "Crossed Cannons" honors were shown on this flag, when the "Shiloh" honor that also appears on the earlier modified Polk flag is not seen. Would it be a stretch to assume that the Augusta Depot 1st Tennessee flag did, or at least was intended to, bear all three of those honors? Of course, this unit participated in many other engagements between Shiloh and Nashville, so where are those battle honors? Have you ever run across any references on this issue?
Can you point me in the direction where I can see an example of the battle honors shown on the fimbration, as you indicate for Lewis' KY, Finley's FL and/or Brown's TN Brigades?
I have seen that the honors on the eastern theater ANV pattern flags appear to be sewn on letters in all four of the quadrants. Was that particular to that theater, and/or to that flag pattern?
Thanks again!
