Ernie,

The ANV flag honors that cane in the dark blue paint were only issued to three full divisions as follows:

1) D.H. Hill's Division (later Robert Rodes') - last honor is Fredericksburg - issued April, 1863

2) A.P. Hill's Division (later Dorsey Pender's and two brigades of Harry Heth's) - last honor is Chancellorsville - issued in late May, 1863

3) Ed Johnson's Division - last honor is Gettysburg - issued in late August/early September, 1863. This also goes for those units of Heth's Division that lost flags there.

Some brigades also did the dark blue honors after the divisional issues like Cox's NC Brigade.

Other brigades did honors before the divisional issues which is probably what bought them out in 1863.

The Time-Life book "Arms & Equipment of the Confederacy" should have the color pictures of some of those flags you asked for.

With regards to the alleged "Shiloh" honor on the second Polk Corps flag of the 1st Tennessee, since I am most familiar with that flag and have seen it a number of times since it was conserved, there is no "Shiloh" honor visible on it at all. There is a crossed-cannon battle honor at the bottom of the vertical cross. The only visible honor os for "Perryville."

So far as their AOT flag goes while sometimes these artists did take some license in the flags this one might not be the case.

Hope this helps.
