15th AL Inf. Co H Flag

Jno/John G Archibald resided in 1850 in Eutaw, Greene Co., AL. and noted he was b/1816 NC and was living with I suspect, a brother William b/1822 NC. On 7/1/64 Jno enlisted in the 15th AL Inf. Co. H and listed his residence as Russell Co., AL. He served in Sharpsburg, MD,and Wilderness, VA, where in both battles he was severely wounded. On 4/9/65 Jno was surrendered at Appomattox Court House, VA. The story circulates in that Jno. took the Reg flag at Appomattox and brought it home. His military notes say he lived in Russell and Greene Co. as he did before the war but I cannot find him in any AL census. Our Confederate soldiers here in Washington State have asked me to do some research on this soldier. Oates said Archibald took the flag and said he wanted it placed under his head in his coffin when buried. This story seems to have just stoped after that and George Martin referred me to you, as he thought you might know of Archibald last resting place. I have checked all the known sites with no results. You would think that it would generate a big story when he died if he did have the flag and was buried with it. I am the historian with Co. C 4th US Infantry Washington Civil War Assoc. and presently working on a project of bio's on all our CW vets buried in our Snohomish Co. To date we have over 300 and many completed. Within our project are many Confederates. Hope you can help me solve this question about the 15th AL Inf. flag. If we find the resting place the Confederate will travel to AL and honor his grave.
