Did you digging give you an idea of the position of the 25th KY in relation to the 8th. Were they to the left rear? I am wondering if that was so, maybe the 25th looked to their front/right and saw nothing but troops in gray.
From what I've read, this pretty much took the 8th out of the action for the day. That and taking some 200+ casualties.
