According to the Bearss maps at the park, which I have copies of, as Cruft's Brigade came forward they moved to the Union right down in Bufford Hollow and away from the Wynn's Ferry Road. McArthur's Brigade had been defeated and was out of ammunition and so had pulled through the line to the rear and Oglesby's Brigade had extended it line from the road down into the hollow. Cruft was also trying to cover the Union hospitals down in the hollow.

It was here where the 25th KY fired into the 8th Illinois.

Some of the Bearss maps are duplicated in Jack Hurst's recent book on Ft. Donelson and these could be helpful for you.
