As Ken has suggested, get Richard Rollins' book "The Damned Red Flags Of The Rebellion" which examines the CS flags taken at Gettybsurg in detail never before seen before or since.

Three flags of Pickett's Division were older ANV issues that were carried in the charge instead of the June, 1863 issued flags. The 8th Virginia was one of them besides what may be the 14th Virginia's flag.
