Hi- A little further research- apparently there are four regiments from Pickett’s Division with identified flags who lost flags at both Gettysburg and Five Forks/ Sayler’s Creek. They are:
Armistead’s/Steuart’s brigade; 9th, 38th, and 57th Va Infantry regiments, and from Garnett’s/ Hunton’s brigade; 18th Va Infantry. Apparently the 8 flags in question are all at the MOC. I wonder if anyone could provide photos of these eight flags, as a comparison would surely answer the question as to what flags were issued to Pickett’s Division after Gettysburg. This may also lead to a clue as to the unidentified flags captured in the same area by the Union cavalry, as to whether some of them possibly came from Pickett’s division. I appreciate any help.
