Re: SC Flag found in Fort Magruder

The "Pickens Sentinals" company flag picked up at Fort Magruder was likely found in bagged left in the the confederate camp/barracks in the rear of Fort Magruder after the battle.

A couple other flags at Williamsburg:
4th VA Cav ceased by a member of Gibson's Horse artillery...who was then bayoneted by a member of the 1st US Cav is in the MOC.

The 5th NC flag picked up by a private of the 5th Wisc and then ordered handed over by Lt. Custer for his own glory was misidentified and returned to Ark. A couple years ago I helped get this fine silk (pink...as they ran out of red silk in Richmond making the flags) flag returned to NC - reside in the State Hist. Museum in Raleigh now.

A couple flags I am still hunting - I think a couple of the Excelsior Brigade Regiments lost their flags - 70th and perhps others, and perhaps also a couple from the NJ Blues Brigade (5-8 NJ Regs).

The 7th VA flag was seized by Peck's Brigade during the battle and sent to Syracuse. It was returned in the late 1800s by the son of Silas Titus who was on Peck's staff....I am not sure to who it was returned. It was a state flag...it may be unidentified in the MOC.
