Re: Morris Island's red garrison flag

Hi saa,

I’m impressed by your use words.

[You’re a little smart alecky, aren’t you?] No, if you are the first to ID the flag as being a unknown South Carolina flag, then you would have been around in 1919.

[Just who do you think you are talking to and who do you think you are?] I don’t know who you are, don’t really care but I thought you had something to contribute beyond name calling. Your hiding behind a alas. Yes, I know who I am.

[I notice you doing a lot naysaying about what the flag in Iowa is not, but I haven’t seen you provide any information on what it is. It very well could be a ship’s flag and when the money is raised to test it, your theory may be proven correct. The flag could have flown over a building in Mobile. The contributor to the museum could have traded another flag for it when he was in Mobile - we just don’t at this point do we?] A finial word is not in as of yet. Hopefully with some constructive debate we can finally find the answers. Calling me as naysaying, is a little prepubescent isn’t it?

[I have contacted a lot of people trying to find out. Now, just whom have you contacted? What records have you looked through? I’m all ears.] I have about 20 years of flag research, its called Vexillology. I have studied the O.R. Reports from the War of Northern Aggression, plus other wars, battle reports, maps and other peoples research regarding this flag and others, etc. etc.. I have contacts with archives and fellow vexillologist in the States and several countries around the world. I have data on over 50,000 flags, mostly dealing with the armed forces of the States of the United States. I have a large palmetto flag file and made about 50 replicas for re enactors & museums, based on solid research.

[As I said, I don’t know if you thought your comments to me was being cute or you were just being an ass, but either way, your “contributions” to this thread don’t amount to much. ] Ask momma to put your big boy britches on so we can move forward and get a ID on this flag. By the way I am extremely cute, thanks for your observation.

Happy Trails!
Tom Martin

P.S. Jim, Please don’t delete this thread I’m interested to see if saa will answer some of his or hers own questions on his or her ID and background. If you find it prudent to do so saa can contact me at tom@piedmontflag.com I’m interested in his research findings if he/she has any.
