Re: Morris Island's red garrison flag
I agree and hate we have not found one document identifying that Red Palmetto flag. So I use our theorys and supporting evidence in hopes it will drive me in the right direction. If someone chases the Frigate theory and finds the documentation I will agree mystery solved. On a positive note think about the story and the history that has resurfaced, A gavel made from the wood of the Star of the West in now known to have been given to Sons of Confederate Veterens of Charleston, SC in 1895 and now in possesion of The Daughters of the Confederacy in Charleston. The bell of the Star of the West survives today an alumni brought that to surface. The photo's of the men involved in our story now are being seen by many people. Once little known, Culppers Battery is subject of research. The engraving of the Star of the West Battery in Harpers Weekly, beautiful proof for the Citadel. The very words used by Stevenson when he ordered the Cadets to fire gun one is again known and can be documented at the school.
Im not dissapointed this has been exciting and we will uncover more. Alot of people contiue to work hard on this and Mr Kullberg has a great way to document it throught the Alumni History.
