Any help in all ways is nice, I have trouble keeping up with the classes of starships also. I went back and looked at the battle map of Fort Morgan, the Tennessee (2) was a ironclad, so I pulled out the book Early American Steamers, there were two ships that carried the name Tennessee during this period. The Tennessee an American Steamship was built in Baltimore in 1853. It was in New Orleans when the war started and was taken into Confederate service, Confederate steamer Tennessee, in 1862 she was captured in New Orleans and renamed USS Tennessee. When the ironclad Tennessee was captured in Mobile bay, the steamer Tennessee was renamed USS Mobile and the ironclad keep the Tennessee name. The steamer USS Tennessee was decommissioned in 1864, sold and renamed the Republic. She went down in a hurricane in 1865 off of Savannah GA. I may be mistaken, I think the ships bell was recovered about 5 years ago.
Happy Trails!
