I am in regular contact with several of Capt. HWCrook's great-great-grandchildren. So far, they have not offered any real hints as to the flags whereabouts, etc. Lt. C.J. McLaurin of Company C wrote years after the war that Crook had brought their company flag home from NC following the surrender. His notes are in the MS State Archives in Jackson in the 8th MS folder.

I am still of the opinion the company flag is in possession of one of these folks or in another private collection. I would only hope it is being properly maintained and preserved, regardless of its location. The real question as I see it...I believe their first company flag was a Stars and Bars and later an AoT Battle Flag. Both the 7th and the 9th carried the BF. The 8th's sister companies - the 5th and 32nd Mississippi Infantries - surely had the same regimental flag at the appropriate time(s) as their command assignments changed. I'm not sure what the 5th and 32nd carried, but I would bet my last Dix note they were BF versions.
