Re: Confederate White Cross Flag - Magruder -1862

As a follow-up, I did a little more research into other newspapers in regard to a new Rebel flag mentioned in the same time period as the Liberty Tribune.

In addition to the Liberty Tribune article previously mentioned, The Bay City Press - (WI) - January 18, 1862 also printed:
“The new rebel flag (white cross on a red background, with stars under and over the arms,) has appeared on the Potomac and in Magruder’s command.”

The Fort Atkinson Standard (WI) - January 30, 1862 and The Indiana Messenger (PA), January 29, 1862 printed:
“A NEW rebel flag, a white cross upon a red ground, with stars above and below the arms, has made its appearance at Manassas.”

The Richland County Observer - (WI) - February 21, 1862 and The Daily State Journal – (Madison, WI) - February 15, 1862 printed:
“The Norfolk Day Book also gives a description of the new flag proposed by the Committee of the Confederate Congress. It is a blue union, on a red field; four stars, in the form of a square, are in the union.”

Again, I know nothing about flags and ‘I simply state what was told to me by the Chinese plate’.
